We are renovating 9 km of track on metro Line 1
It is the most extensive project ever undertaken on the network, representing the renovation of a stretch of metro track that is over 50 years old.
To achieve a comprehensive update of more than nine kilometres of infrastructure on Line 1 of the metro, the section between Clot and Fondo is closed from 29 June to 30 August inclusive. The remainder of the line, betweem Hospital de Bellvitge and Clot, is operating normally.
Undertaking this work is very complex and is not compatible with allowing trains to circulate. Coinciding with the summer, the time of year with least urban mobility, the work is concentrated into the shortest possible period of time.
A major investment to renovate a stretch of track over 50 years old
The work is being done to renovate over nine kilometres of track, material and systems on the section between Clot and Fondo which has been in operation for over 50 years.
How will the service and infrastructure of Line 1 be improved?
- A total of 9.150 linear metres of simple track will be replaced mounted on concrete slabs with the appropriate fittings and drainage in order to facilitate its maintenence.
- Apparatus on the line will be replaced and extended to improve the manoeuvering of trains and changes of direction.
- All of the rail signals in the tunnels will be renewed.
- Measures will be taken to reduce vibration in a section of the track that runs close to Santa Coloma.
- New rows of ticket validators will be installed.
- Access doors at stations will be motorised.
What are the alternative transport possibilities?
Metro Line 9 Nord (La Sagrera - Can Zam) and local commuter trains (Rodalies) are the main alternatives during the closure period. Specifically, Rodalies at the stations of Sant Andreu Comtal (R2 / R2 North, Sant Andreu Arenal (R3 and R4), La Sagrera - Meridiana (R3 and R4) and El Clot - Aragó (R2 / R2 North). Bus routes V31, V33 and 62, which have been reinforced, also perform a good service. Line 9 Nord connects La Sagrera with Fondo in 13 minutes, in combination with the metro line 5.
TMB has set up a special bus service, running from Fondo to Clot, and a second backup service of the Meridiana hub to Fabra i Puig. These two special bus services link the closed stations and other railway transport of the zone (L9 Nord and Rodalies). They are the only services with the capacity to absorb this section of line 1 of the metro. It is not necessary to validate tickets to use these services.
All TMB buses, lines 9 Nord and 10 Nord and La Sagrera interchange are accessible.
In order to facilitate transport of people with reduced mobility, TMB provides a special service with two buses and assistance, which link Glòries station (accessible station) and Clot station (station without lift).
People with sight impairment can ask for assistance to enter and exit Clot, La Sagrera and Fondo stations. This service should be requested by phoning 933 289 400.
People with disabilities and/or reduced mobility can check transport recommendations through the customer service channels.
