The X1 XPRESBus line reaches the Diagonal university area

From 21st September, seven new stops from Plaça Francesc Macià onwards

The X1 XPRESBus express bus line (Torre Melina - Glòries), which has connected plaça Francesc Macià and Glòries since 2021, is extending its route to reach the Diagonal university area, with its starting and terminal stop located at the Jardins de Torre Melina.

This measure improves urban connectivity, strengthens intermodality, and expands public transport coverage in strategic areas of the city with high mobility demand.

The extension includes seven new stops: three outbound stops, three inbound stops, and one stop that will serve as both the route's starting point and terminus. As a result, the service will connect central Barcelona with avinguda Albert Bastardas  (at the Jardins de Torre Melina ).

We promote intermodality in the area

With this extension, the X1 XPRESBus continues along avinguda Diagonal towards Llobregat, adding new stops at Maria Cristina, Palau Reial and Zona Universitària. The route ends at the Jardins Torre Melina.

In addition, the extension of the X1 XPRESBus line aims to promote intermodality and facilitate connections with other public transport modes, including links with the metro, tram and intercity and metropolitan bus services operating from the Baix Llobregat area.

To ensure that the X1 XPRESBus service maintains its speed, regularity and reliability, as well as its usual service frequency, two additional buses have been assigned to the line from TMB's reserve fleet, ensuring that service levels on other bus routes remain unaffected.

Quick access to the city centre from avinguda Diagonal

The route extension particularly benefits the university community, while also making travel easier for users of intercity and metropolitan services arriving from the Baix Llobregat area.

As a result, people entering Barcelona via avinguda Diagonal can reach the city centre more directly and efficiently.

A constantly growing line

Since its launch, demand for the X1 XPRESBus has continued to grow. In 2024, the line recorded 1.2 million validations, representing an increase of 31.65% compared with the previous year. In 2025, the line registered nearly 1.13 million validations.

Overall, from its inauguration through April 2026, the X1 has accumulated 4.5 million validations, while the average daily ridership this year stands at around 4,800 journeys.
