We open the ZAL workshop for Open Barri

Barcelona, World Capital of Architecture 2026

Guided tours into the inner workings of the automatic lines

TMB is reopening the ZAL metro workshop, this time as part of Open Barri in the La Marina neighbourhood, a format that delves into the knowledge of a specific area over fifteen days by combining visits, routes and cultural activities.

The ZAL facilities serve metro lines 9 and 10, both fully automated and the newest in the Barcelona metro network. In this workshop, trains are prepared for service and the systems that allow this mode of transport to operate every day are monitored. The complex, covering an area of over 10,000 m², is organised into several tracks, designated for depots and specialised technical areas.

The visits will take place on:

  • Wednesday, 15 April: 3 sessions of 20 people each – 10:30 am, 11:15 am and 12:00 pm
  • Wednesday, 22 April: 3 sessions of 20 people each – 4:30 pm, 5:15 pm and 6:00 pm

Registration is fully booked and has been managed by the 48h Open House organisation.

The Open Barri Espais Ocuts (hidden spaces)

Open Barri is a cultural and architectural initiative promoted by the 48h Open House Barcelona association, within the framework of the World Capital of Architecture 2026. It consists of three events held throughout 2026, each focused on a different neighbourhood of Barcelona. The aim is to highlight the architectural, social and urban heritage of areas less commonly included in the city’s cultural circuit, promoting a more equitable and decentralised perspective.

Espais Ocults (Hidden Spaces) are incorporated into Open Barri through a selection of sites that, due to their conditions of use, safety, conservation or operation, cannot be opened during the open doors weekend. These are spaces that are usually inaccessible to the public but hold significant historical, heritage or infrastructural value.

The project aims to bring visibility to the city’s lesser-known heritage through guided tours led by experts. These visits offer a detailed explanation of the historical, architectural and urban context of each space, last approximately one hour, and allow for a more in-depth approach than the visits to other spaces during the open doors events.
