Sant Jordi brings us together, and so does TMB
Have a great Sant Jordi day with TMB!
Since a hundred years, TMB’s transport services have been building connections: bringing people together, linking neighborhoods, and keeping Barcelona and its metropolitan area moving.
They’ve created a network that goes far beyond being just a means of transport from one point to another — becoming spaces where people meet, cross paths, and sometimes even connect in meaningful ways.
Sant Jordi is one of the most emblematic celebrations on our calendar, a day filled with tradition and literature. But beyond books and roses, Sant Jordi speaks to us of the magic of love, of friendship, of family — of genuine, heartfelt connections.
It’s a day when the streets, the metro, and the buses fill with shared stories, gestures of affection, and journeys made by people who lose themselves in the pages of books. Moments lived by those who travel to celebrate Sant Jordi in the way they love the most.
We recommend that you use public transport to get around the city during the day. Check out our transport recommendations and prioritize traveling by metro whenever you can.
Sant Jordi: A Day of Roses, Books, and Magic in Catalonia
Sant Jordi’s Day, celebrated on April 23rd, is one of the most beautiful and special festivals in Catalonia. It originates from the legend of the knight Saint George, who saved a princess by killing a dragon, from which a rose emerged. The date also coincides with the death of two great authors of world literature: William Shakespeare and Miguel de Cervantes.
That’s why, on this day, it’s traditional for couples to exchange roses and books as symbols of love and culture. The streets transform into a great spectacle of color and life.
The book and rose stands fill with people looking for the perfect gift for their partners, friends, or family: bookstores and florists set up stalls along the busiest streets, creating a festive and joyful atmosphere. In addition, many authors take the opportunity to sign their books, allowing readers to interact with them.
The city quares and streets are filled with music, cultural activities, and, in many cases, performances, making the day unique and much more. If you’re visiting Barcelona from outside Catalonia, get ready to experience a unique and charming day!
