Chronicle of a journey
On July 22th, come to the presetation venue of this digital journey through the history of the Barcelona metro.
From the arrival of the first underground trains in 1924 to the automated lines and T-Mobilitat, this interactive timeline guides you through the key moments of a century of urban, social, and technological transformations.
To build this space, more than 250 images from TMB’s historical archive have been used, some of them enhanced with animation resources.
The narrative structure of this website is organized into three navigation paths:
- Journey: We invite you to explore the entire history of the metro in 7 stages, from the laying of the first stone to the present day. Each stage begins with an interactive 3D video showing the historical layout of the metro lines over a 3D model of the city of Barcelona and its surrounding municipalities.
- Stories: On this website, you’ll also find more than 50 stories that reveal the relationship between the city’s growth and the evolution of the metro network, and vice versa. Highlights include an interactive 3D simulator that explains the uniqueness of the now-defunct Lesseps depot and its train elevator. There is also a section dedicated to trains, featuring archive images and blueprints, as well as an interactive 3D model of a Series 300 train, recreated from original plans and photographs of the restored model.
- Timeline: Over 100 events illustrated with images from our historical archive.
