TMB’s corporate website: two decades evolving in service of metropolitan mobility

Twenty years ago, the Catalan-speaking digital community made history. The creation of the .cat domain marked a global milestone: for the first time, the Catalan language and culture gained their own presence on the Internet.

At that historic moment, TMB chose to join the initiative by adopting the new domain. Since then, tmb.cat has evolved into one of the main digital channels connecting people with mobility services in Barcelona and its metropolitan area.

tmb.cat is available in Catalan, Spanish and English.

A website always on the move

What started as an information portal about public transport is now a digital platform that integrates real-time information, route planning, online services, ticket sales, personalised features and corporate content.

The website has continuously evolved, incorporating new technologies and functionalities to provide an experience that is increasingly useful, accessible and tailored to users’ needs.

An evolution reflected in the figures

Between 2013 and 2026, the website will have grown from 8 million to 15 million annual visits, representing an increase of 87.5%.

This growth reflects not only the rising use of digital channels, but also the continuous expansion of services, content and tools that make mobility easier and strengthen the connection between citizens and TMB.

Website and app, one ecosystem

Today, tmb.cat and the TMB App work together to provide a seamless digital experience. Service information, journey planning, alerts, purchases and personalised features are available through both channels, adapting to every stage of the journey.

A website in constant evolution

The evolution of tmb.cat reflects a clear transition from an informative corporate website to a digital service platform. From 2016 onwards, the responsive redesign replaced the separation between the desktop website and the mobile version, improved navigation and established the website as the main information channel.

Between 2017 and 2019, the focus shifted towards personalisation, journey planning and the integration of services such as JoTMBé, Vull Anar and online purchasing. In 2020, the pandemic accelerated the role of the website as a critical channel for information, remote services and safe travel planning.

From 2021 onwards, the portal incorporated new self-service features linked to T-mobilitat and, between 2023 and 2025, moved towards a more integrated experience with the TMB App, including accessibility information, multimodal mobility options and a progressive redesign.
