Transport during Covid-19 in images
Since March 2020 we experienced an exceptional, overwhelming and unexpected situation. This was also applied to our mobility and, in particular, to public transport. This exhibition wanted to testify how metro and bus users had lived through the health emergency. Users of public transport who, through Instagram, had shared portraits of the journeys they had to keep doing, from the beginning of the confinement and later on, during the deconfinement.
All the photographs made up an image gallery which is living permanently on the TMB website. The objective was to create a collective historical memory of our new mobility reality.
Of all the ones that can be seen in the web gallery, we selected 30 that had been seen in the Espai Mercè Sala after the summer.
More than a hundred images had been published with the hashtag #CoronaTMB, created by @tmb_bcn specifically for this initiative, where many personal views and reflections had been contributed by their authors. These photos, in addition to testifying to this new scenario, also expressed the effort of the professionals who had made it possible to keep the essential mobility services running smoothly. Therefore, it also aimed to be a heartfelt gesture of appreciation.
From their perspective, the authors of the photographs we are exhibiting, managed to capture the loneliness of the first journeys from an artistic angle, with utmost respect for the people crossing their paths during the journey. Others expressed uncertainty, sadness, hope and overcoming difficult times. All the portraits helped to normalize the day-to-day of a new way of public transport, while being a tribute to their protagonists, all those who trusted public transport, allowing us to keep on going day after day, no matter what, there are millions of stories...
In the Covid-19 section you will find all the information about the new normality on public transport.
