Two electric articulated buses in service on line H16
If you take the H16 bus you can enjoy clean, sustainable transport thanks to two fully electric articulated buses that have recently been added to the fleet.
The two new electric buses are operating on line H16, which runs between Passeig de la Zona Franca and Fòrum. They are easily recognisable, as they are decorated with green plugs on a white background.
What are they like?
They are both 18 metre-long Solaris Urbinos, with four doors and door-opening buttons. They each have three ticket validators and two wheelchair areas, along with regular features (low platform, ramp and non-slip flooring).
Like all the new vehicles in the fleet, they also have USB ports for charging mobile devices.
How do they work?
Powered by 270 kW motors, these vehicles run all day thanks to their battery charging system, which enables them to be charged via a retractable pantograph on the roof at a specially built station in the Zona Franca, close to the end of the line. The process takes from 5 to 8 minutes and charges the battery up to 80%; sufficient for another run.
Transport of the future
These buses are part of a pilot scheme under the European Commission’s ZeEUS project, which aims to develop fully electric high-capacity vehicles.
With addition of electric vehicles to the bus fleet TMB continues to advance in improving the environment and achieving the objective of completely clean public transport.
Welcome to the vehicles of the future! They are 100% electric, very quiet and non-polluting.
