New look for Barcelona’s official sightseeing bus
The Barcelona Bus Turístic has left behind its icon of an eye looking at the city on its vehicles and moves towards a more genuine image; one with character, based on textures and colours that evoke Barcelona.
The Barcelona Bus Turístic’s new image, launched on 9 January, aims to take a conceptual leap to make the service a benchmark in the city, as a new symbol of Barcelona. After 30 years, the eye icon disappears from the fleet and is replaced with a whole new image.
The new image is the result of a process of transformation of shapes, textures and colours found in the most authentic details in the city. The multi-coloured triangular pattern that is the visual identity synthesises the sun’s reflection on the sea, the texture of Gaudí’s trencadis mosaics, the city’s paving stones, the stained glass windows of its churches, the grid pattern of the Agbar Tower and the mesh of Frank Gehry’s Golden Fish in the Vila Olímpica. The new design lends a more genuine identity, one with character, that evokes Barcelona.
The updating of the design coincides with a renewal of the fleet, which is now even more efficient and environmentally friendly. Twenty new vehicles have been added, all with greater capacity on the top deck.
Along with the free Wi-Fi available on all 77 buses, the new additions have USB connectors for every seat. Passengers can follow a commentary on the route, thanks to a multilingual audio guide system in 16 languages, with recyclable headphones. There is also a Turisme de Barcelona information officer on board. Users also receive a guide with all the stops on the route and a book of vouchers with discounts on cultural and leisure attractions in the city.
