Bus network

The bus network provides service to Barcelona and other districts in the metropolitan area. The network surface area has 109 lines that cover a total distance of 921,53 kilometers (semi-total of outward bound and return journeys).


The fleet is comprised of 1.086 vehicles and 100% have now been equipped with latest technology, comfort and quality. The whole fleet is accessible to persons with reduced mobility (PRM) and the number of vehicles with air conditioning is 1.079 buses, all excepting, of course, the 7 open-air double-decker buses of the Barcelona Bus Turistic service. The average commercial speed of the buses is 11,55 Km/h and service regulation is done by monitoring the vehicles by satellite using the Operating Assistance System (OAS).

Metro network

The metro network is formed by six lines and the funicular railway, and now has 123 stations distributed along its 86,6 kilometres. Of these stations, there are 88 that are not connected to any other lines, 15 have one connection and one is connected to two lines. Nine of these are linked to the Renfe network, four for the Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat network and one to the Funicular of Montjuïc line. The average distance between each station is 650 metres.


The rolling stock of the underground network amounted to 746 vehicles, at the end of 2007, 598 of which are engine cars and 148 trailers. The trains in more modern services have interconnected cars to permit the optimum distribution of passengers. 100% of the metro fleet is air-conditioned.

Montjuïc funicular railway

The Montjuïc Funicular links up the Paral•lel metro station (L2 and L3) with the Olympic Stadium and Park of Montjuïc. It has a distance of 758 metres, 531 of which are underground and 227 at surface level with a capacity for up to 8.000 passengers/hour in both directions.

Leisure transport

TMB also operates other public transport means which, due to their singular characteristics, have a complementary function to the service provided by the Metro and bus networks. These are the Telefèric de Montjuïc, the Tramvia Blau and Barcelona Bus Turístic.

Telefèric de Montjuïc

Telefèric de Montjuïc, which is completely new, offers the citizens of Barcelona and tourists a modern, attractive means of transport to the highest part of the mountain. The Telefèric de Montjuïc has been designed based on the strictest safety measures, and is fully accessible for persons with reduced mobility (PRM). Great care has been taken to respect the environment and surrounding areas, and the latest techniques have been introduced to ensure this service operates all year round. The Telefèric de Montjuïc network, which has a total length of 752 meters and spans stretches with drops of 84.55 meters, is able to transport some 2,000 persons/hour in each direction, in its 55 cabins, two of which are specially adapted for wheelchairs.

The Tramvia Blau

The Tramvia Blau travels a route of 1.3 kilometers between Avinguda del Tibidabo and the foot of the Tibidabo funicular railway. Its fleet is formed by seven trams which include an "open-air" tram and a tram dating from 1901.

Barcelona Bus Turístic

The Barcelona Bus Turístic service was first started up in 1987. It now has three routes (the Red Route, the Blue Route and the Forum Route (which runs from April to September) with stops near the most important points of historic, cultural and artistic interest in the city of Barcelona. The Barcelona Bus Turístic service has a fleet of 65 buses, 58 of which are double-decker buses with no roof on the top deck and 7 are single-deckers, of the open type, allowing visitors to admire the city from a different angle.
