Virtual transport information on the metropolitan urban network
The main aim of this app for Android smartphones and iPhone is to help users to get about on public transport.
The app has the following functions:
- Where am I? locates your position and show the nearest bus stops and metro stations on Google Maps. Once you have selected your stop, dropdown information tells you which buses stop there, the TMB iBus system tells you how long until the next bus and any alterations to services. You can also find the bus’s route and the times it gets to the stop.
- The journey planning function I want to go shows a journey on Google Maps from start to finish. The results show total time required, including any walking and the bus journey.
- View the route of any bus or metro line and download the metro map in PDF.
- Locate the nearest bus stops and metro stations with augmented reality. Just point the phone’s camera in any direction and bus stop signs, lines and the distance to them in metres will appear on the screen, superimposed on real-world images. If you turn your phone sideways, it becomes a compass and each stop is shown as an arrow pointing in the direction to take.
This is a variation of the TMB Virtual app for users on the Barcelona Bus Turístic. Over the real view of the city the phone shows the nearest bus stops and distances in metres, and the route that stops there. Another function shows a diagram with the Barcelona Bus Turístic routes and stops and, for each stop shows and locates the nearest sites, such as museums, monuments, historical buildings and other attractions.
