Map of phase 1 of the new bus network

A more efficient, effective and competitive bus network

The first five lines of the new network enter service in October 2012

Two horizontal lines, two vertical lines and one diagonal line, together totalling 88.8 kilometres. It is anticipated that these new bus routes will carry 70,000 people a day, almost 10% more than the current figure.

The remaining phases will take place gradually, up to 28 buses with a high level of service.

  • 17 vertical (sea-mountain).
  • 8 horizontal (Llobregat-Besòs).
  • 3 radial, crossing the others diagonally.

The network will be completed with:

  • Existing urban and interurban lines.
  • The entire Bus del Barri network and other local lines.

What's different about the new network

  • The straightest routes the road layout allows.
  • Adapted infrastructure for a faster, more regular service.
  • Slightly greater distance between stops, up to 350-400 m.
  • Advanced user information systems and easily identifiable image.
  • Single change of bus on any journey in 95% of cases.
  • Sustainable in terms of resource consumption and environmental impact.

Interview with Josep Mensión, Chief Officer of Central Services and assistant to the Bus Network Management Office

Josep Mensión explains what the operation of the new bus network will mean for passengers. For instance, increased commercial speed thanks to priority at traffic lights and improved quality of service as only one bus route operates on each arterial road. The Chief Officer of Bus Central Services also says that bus drivers also benefit, thanks to an easier drive.
